Did you know that honey has health benefits? I've even heard it helps with wound care, I haven't tried that yet, seems like it would make a mess!
Down by the creek there is a really old tree that has a very large wild honeybee hive. This is not where we get our honey from though. This is a wild hive, but they have been there for several years. Our honey comes from "domestic" hives used to aid pollination.
This hive is very high up in the tree, probably 30-40 feet up. So, the other day Kenny had a friend over for the day and he brought his drone. One of the things they explored was getting a look at and some pictures of the hive. They were careful to stay away to not disturb the bees. We learned the hive is so large they are building honeycomb sticking out of the tree. I guess no predators can reach it, and the hive just keeps growing. It was amazing to get a glimpse of all the work they had been doing.
The boys had a great time exploring with the help of the drone. It's so good to see boys outside barefoot exploring! I am so thankful my sons have this opportunity, and that they have wholesome friends!
To Summer days with friends...
